Martha Flora

This project offers a beautiful outcome for a great initiative. In 2017, Van den Berg Hardhout provided a new awning and wooden cladding for Martha Flora in Haarlem. This private nursing home offers specialized dementia care to people who can no longer live at home. In addition to a branch in Haarlem, Martha Flora can also be found at more than 10 other special locations, including in The Hague, Maastricht and Hilversum.

After a lengthy renovation, Martha Flora Haarlem has been transformed into a place that offers plenty of living space within a protected living environment. There are 24 care studios in the modern apartment complex. Nice rooms in the atmosphere of home where the residents can withdraw or receive their family. The facade of the property is aggrandised with a canopy over the entrance as well as Guariuba siding. This tropical hardwood is ideal for outdoor usage. When freshly sawn, Guariuba has a yellowish tinge, but the wood quickly discolours to a warm, (red) brown colour, as can now be seen on the facade of Martha Flora. When untreated Guariuba wood is exposed to the weather, the colour gradually changes to silver-grey.
